STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS & ACTIVITIES

Scholarships:

Each year, the Scholarship Committee selects one or more graduate or undergraduate students as recipients of the Golden West Section annual scholarship. In recent years our Section has offered up to $3,500 in scholarship funding for selected finalists. Candidates attend colleges and universities within the Golden West Section's geographic boundaries.

The Golden West Section Officers and Board have awarded a 2006 Scholarship Award of $ 2,000 to Ms. Beverly K. Coleman - a PH.D student in the Civil & Environmental Engineering program at UC - Berkeley. Ms. Coleman received her Bachelor's degree from UT-Austin before joining the 5-year MS/PH.D program at UC-Berkeley, received the MS degree in 2005, and has a 3.96/4.00 GPA in her graduate work to date. Since undergraduate days, Beverly's research focus has been on investigating a broad range of sources in the area of Indoor Air Quality, and her current PH.D. thesis title is Exposure-Relevant Ozone Chemistry in Occupied Spaces. She received outstanding references from her principal UC-Berkeley professors - Bill Nazaroff and Bob Harley.

The Golden West Section plans to provide scholarships again in 2007 for students attending colleges or universities in our Section's geographic area. The Deadline for submittal of applications is December 31, 2007.
